Musto are proud to be the official clothing suppliers to the 2008 iShares Cup, an exhilarating series of inshore races for the Extreme 40 Catamarans, running throughout the summer at various ports throughout Europe.
How it started:
It all started in 2004 when the Extreme 40 was conceived on paper as a multihull class that would be exciting and challenging to race. The Extreme 40 are designed to attract adrenaline-seeking sailors and become a spectacular spectator sport.
The Extreme 40 was born in 2005 when five boats were built and raced at the stopover ports for the 2005-2006 Volvo Ocean Race. The Extreme 40 fleet entertained the crowds at five stopover events in Sanxenxo, Rio de Janeiro, Baltimore, Portsmouth and Rotterdam.
The Boat:
The Extreme 40 is a catamaran with two hulls and a deck that is made from a trampoline-like netting stretched between the hulls. This sailing machine, innovative in design and cutting edge in racing ability, can reach exhilarating and yet still provide a great ride flying around on one hull in light winds.
2008:
The 2008 circuit for the iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series will continue to focus on high-octane, competitive close-quarter racing, accessible to the viewing public whilst providing an unforgettable VIP experience. If 2007 got pulses racing in the inaugural iShares Cup, 2008 looks set to create even more of a buzz both on and off the water. Visiting six countries, and some great European cities and destinations, with Olympic medallists up against America’s Cup legends.
The Circuit:
The iShares Cup will consist of five city-based regattas taking place from May to September 2008.
